Overview
Tefillah BeShanah offers Long Island an inspiring, content-rich overview of Jewish Prayer. Combining text and practice, history and philosophy, weekly lectures from world experts will awaken the minds, souls, and lips of its students. The course comes off the heels of an extremely successful Tanach BeShanah program, which gave weekly overviews of each of the books of Tanach to students traveling to our central location from Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties!
Location
The course will meet at the Young Israel of North Woodmere, 634 Hungry Harbor Road, North Woodmere, NY 11581. Click here for directions
Schedule
Apart from holidays and yeshiva break, the course will meet every Tuesday evening from 8:00pm to 9:30pm, starting November 13th and continuing through May 14th. Click to see our full schedule of classes and instructors for more details.
Format
Each weekly lecture will cover one topic or section within tefillah. The lectures will differ based on the topic and the lecturer. (Students of our Tanach BeShanah program last year and in previous years would consistently remark that the variety among the different lecturers was one of the features they appreciated most about the course.) Lectures will emphasize halachic, historical, structural, philosophical, spiritual, and practical aspects of tefillah generally, while highlighting passages from the most important tefillot themselves.
Archives
Have to miss some – or even a majority – of the lectures? Not to worry. Archives are available to registered students only with a valid username and password. We will provide you with the username and password at the classes. Once individual lectures have been given please click here to access the archives.
Course Materials
In addition to a course outline and an extensive recommended reading list, lecturers will provide handouts with sources – all in the original Hebrew, accompanied by translation.
Contact
If you have any questions or concerns, please send an email to the course administrator, Rabbi Yehuda Septimus, at rabbi@yinw.org.
Registration
First session – free
Full course – $180
Sponsorship of a lecture in someone’s honor or memory – $360 (includes full course access for 1 person)
The cost of registration covers weekly classes with world class tefillah experts, source materials, and mp3 recordings of missed lectures. Registration closes November 26th, 2018.
Only able to make a few of the classes? It’s still worth registering! The $180 price-tag reflects an already heavily and generously subsidized course. Even if you only make it to a few of the lectures, you will have already gotten your money’s worth. In addition, source materials and mp3 recordings for missed lectures will be available to all those who register.
Sorry, Registration has ended.
